Weekly Stuff - The Birthday Boy, Photography, Slay The Spire - Aug 30 2024
Weekly Stuff is a series from me to you in which I keep you updated on the best stuff I've read (and sometimes seen/heard/watched) this week. It won't always be made or from this week. I'm sure you can deal with that.
How was your bank holiday weekend? Summer's coming to an end, but there's still some joy to be squeezed from it.
Mine was an absolute delight. I was the birthday boy on Monday! Another rotation around the sun for me, and I got a bunch of lovely friends down the pub to shower me with positivity and attention, two of my favourite things.
Seriously though, it really was nice to see folks from different areas of my life getting on fantastically. Made me feel good about stuff. So, what else have I been up to?

Since I lost my bag on a London bus a few weeks ago, I haven't had access to film photography for a while. It was especially devastating to lose my Lomo LC-A+ because the roll of film on it was almost completely used up.
I was delighted, then, for the beautiful birthday gift of a replacement point-and-shoot film camera. This one is the Olympus Trip MD3, and I've had a fantastic time giving it a go and figuring out the nuances between it and my previous kit.
I can't wait to see how the new images turn out and to get back on my film photography journey!

I've been playing a lot of Slay The Spire lately. Coupled with Balatro, which just announced a brand-new partnership with the likes of Among Us, The Witcher, and more, the deckbuilding roguelike genre has had me in a chokehold this past week.
I find the design of this kind of game so fascinating and have spent a not-insignificant amount of time taking notes on how exactly these titles create environments in which so many possibilities can be created.
The potential for so many different types of runs is what keeps me coming back. I absolutely love the feeling I get when I'm forced to switch my approach based on a certain card or relic showing up and it works, very little in gaming can compare to that sweet, sweet satisfaction.
Maybe it's the small accomplishments that get me. The fact that I've proven to myself I can adapt to challenging situations and succeed. Or maybe I just like numbers going up. Who knows.

Have a great weekend! I'm off to the theatre tomorrow - more on that next week. What are you up to?
